Brad Cox

Australian music sensation Brad Cox is thrilled to announce his upcoming solo tour, "Yarns and Yodels," set to captivate audiences across regional Australia. Inspired by the 50 or so sold-out solo shows Brad performed during lockdown, he will be taking to the theatre stage to perform beloved Coxy favourites, both new and old, and hopefully get a few laughs in the process. Unlike the Brad Cox full band rock show, the “Yarns and Yodels" tour offers an intimate and up-close experience, showcasing Brad's versatility as an artist. Fans can look forward to a rich and diverse showcase of Brad's talents, spanning from upbeat country pop to moving piano ballads. More than just a musical journey, Brad's performances are infused with his distinctive and humorous storytelling. This combination promises not only a much loved singalong, but also a bloody good laugh. Inspired by the likes Bert Kreischer, Tom Segura and many other stand up comics, Brad will let the audience decide if it’s a worthy dabble in stand up, or maybe time to sit down. Talking about the solo shows Brad stated, “The concept for the Yarns and Yodels shows was born out of the pandemic. After stripping back the show to an acoustic, sit-down, solo setting during lockdown, I fell in love with the format again. It forced me to re-learn songs and play them as they were written. Me, a bottle of wine, and the shits with the world - that’s the formula for good songs” “I enjoyed it so much, I wanted to recreate these shows, but take it one step further and out of the pubs and into intimate theatres. I have road-tested it a bunch of times, and now I am keen to take it far and wide. And who knew this little fat kid from the snow could muster up a few funny yarns and get a proper belly laugh out of the crowd.” This announcement comes hot on the heels of the remarkable success of his recent headline shows and the overwhelming response to his recent album ‘Acres’, released in May 2023. Brad Cox, known for his authentic spirit and down-to-earth persona, has become a prominent figure in the Australian music scene. His third studio album, 'Acres,’ not only topped the ARIA Country Charts but has been coupled with the overwhelming success of the 'Acres Tour’. The tour saw packed houses across metro and regional Australia, selling 30,000 tickets in 2023, and solidifying his status as one of the country's most celebrated musicians. Not one to become complacent, Brad is gearing up to release new music soon, offering fans something new and exciting to look forward too in the near future.

Symphonie of the Bicycle

Life is short, and the Tour de France is long. Over 200 years ago a volcano erupts over Indonesia spreading an ash cloud all the way to Europe, to the home of inventor Karl Von Drais. When his beloved horse passes away due to the ash, Karl struck by a moment of inspiration devises a two-wheeled man-powered mode of transport, the humble bicycle. Flash forward to the present day where we meet Hew, an aspiring cyclist stuck in a rut of dead-end jobs and missed opportunities. He harbours a pathological envy of his successful high school friend, Jake, now a professional cyclist. The story of Hew runs parallel with that of two-time Tour de France champion Gino Bartali, who risked his life during WWII to secretly transport documents to save Jewish people in Northern Italy. A chain of uphill battles, twists and turns leads to a most unlikely meeting on a mountain. Written by and starring Hew Parham, this gem of a show weaves together a series of outrageous characters and stories across time and space in an absurdly hysterical, yet ultimately moving portrait of the quest for glory and heroism. Directed by Adelaide legend Chris Drummond, Symphonie of the Bicycle is a funny, heartfelt show about cycling and obsession, envy, ambition, winning and losing, and finding the inner grit to dominate the mountain stages of life.

The Nature of Love

FRENCH FILM FESTIVAL 2024 French with English subtitles Love is unexpected, sensual, funny and complicated in the latest film by French-Canadian writer/director Monia Chokri, who before becoming an internationally-renowned filmmaker, was known for her work as an actress in the films of Xavier Dolan. Intelligently handled and full of warmth and humour, The Nature of Love delves into what happens when a happily- coupled woman falls in love with somebody else. Sophia (Magalie Lépine Blondeau, A Brother’s Love), a 40-year-old philosophy professor, is in a long-term stable but somewhat socially-conforming relationship with Xavier, her intellectual equal but a man who is more her best friend than lover. Sylvain (Pierre-Yves Cardinal, Tom at the Farm) is the working-class contractor hired to renovate their holiday home in the Canadian woods. Despite their vast differences, Sophia and Sylvain share an electrifying, creative, and uncontrollable sexual chemistry and an unpredictable affair begins. Questioning the nature of monogamy and skewering the conventions of the traditional rom-com, the film radiates with wit and passion. Filmed with a nod to cheesy romance films of the 70s - think corny music overlays, sentimental montages and exaggerated camera angles - The Nature of Love is in fact wickedly sharp and funny.

The Three Musketeers - D'Artagnan

FRENCH FILM FESTIVAL 2024 French with English subtitles Opening Night Alexandre Dumas’ thrilling and beloved classic novel The Three Musketeers has spawned multiple adaptations since its publication in 1844, but none have approached the scope and spectacle of this wildly entertaining, blockbuster two-film production from director Martin Bourboulon, who assembles an all-star cast for the first French cinematic treatment in over 30 years. Set in the early 17th century kingdom of France, the opening instalment D’Artagnan follows a spirited young swordsman, Charles D’Artagnan (François Civil), on his journey from Gascony to Paris to join the King’s elite Musketeers of the Guard. Along the way, he narrowly escapes death whilst heroically saving a woman from being kidnapped. In his efforts to enlist, D’Artagnan manages to offend the sensibilities of three of the most formidable Musketeers in the ranks, Athos Vincent Cassel), Porthos (Pio Marmaï) and Aramis (Romain Duris). But D’Artagnan soon wins them over, and his dedication to help his newfound friends and serve King Louis XIII Louis Garrel) will lead him not only into the path of the mysterious Milady deWinter (Eva Green) and the Queen’s consort Constance Lyna Khoudri), but into the heart of a conspiracy where the future of the nation itself is at stake. France’s biggest box-office success of 2023, Bourboulon’s magnificent production - lavishly produced with a budget of over €70 million - is respectful of its source but enriched with contemporary touches; the film is chock-full of humour, romance, palace intrigue and pulse-pounding action. Yuldea - Bangarra Dance Theatre

Photo: Daniel Boud From the incomparable storytellers of Bangarra Dance Theatre comes a major new work. Frances Rings’ first work as Artistic Director is a ceremonial affirmation of history and heritage. Yuldea awakens the earth and sky worlds to tell the story of the Aṉangu people of the Great Victorian Desert. Yuldea explores the moment traditional life collided with the industrial ambition of a growing nation. In 1917, the two halves of the Transcontinental Railway met at the precious water soak on the edge of the Nullarbor, Yuldi Kapi. Great metal serpents scarred the landscape, draining all water from the sacred soak. Then came the black mist of the atomic testing at Maralinga, forcing the Aṉangu people to leave their desert homelands where they had lived for millennia. Now memories lay scattered, like the Aṉangu people, displaced from their home. Remnants of colonial progress are swallowed by sand. But the Aṉangu endure, determined to keep strong their knowledge systems of land and sky, honouring their eternal bonds of kinship between people and place. Yuldea features original music by Leon Rodgers with featured songs by multi-award-winning duo Electric Fields (Zaachariaha Fielding and Michael Ross). Designers Elizabeth Gadsby (Set), Jennifer Irwin (Costume) and Karen Norris (Lighting) create a desert world on stage.
