BONGO STARKIE'S SKYHOOKS

Bob ‘Bongo’ Starkie, guitarist with one of Australia’s most loved bands – Skyhooks. They lit up the 1970s with their catchy tunes and outrageous costumes. Bongo is keeping the Skyhooks’ music alive when he performs live at The Gov with his Skyhooks Show. The Skyhooks were incredibly influential on Australian music, their album ‘Living in the 70’s’ released in 1974 is rightly regarded as an Australian classic, being added to the National Film and Sound archive to showcase the very best in Australian culture. Bob was inducted alongside his band mates into the ARIA Hall Of Fame in 1992, cementing Skyhooks’ legacy as one of Australia’s finest acts ever. Skyhooks formed in Melbourne, March 1973, acquiring their flamboyant lead singer Graeme “Shirley” Strachan a year later, the band would end up touring and recording for nearly 30 years. Racking up number 1 hits like: ‘Ego Is Not A Dirty Word,’ ‘Horror Movie,’ ‘Living In The 70s,’ ‘Women In Uniform,’ & ‘Jukebox In Siberia’. Skyhooks also dominated the radio waves with fan favourites: “You Just Like Me ‘Cos I’m Good in Bed”, “All My Friends Are Getting Married”, “Million Dollar Riff” & “Balwyn Calling”. Now as a celebration of Skyhooks’ legacy, founding member & guitarist, Bob “Bongo” Starkie has put together a new band with the intention of keeping the group’s music alive. After sold out shows in Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney, Bongo’s Skyhooks show hits Whyalla/Mt Gambier in January delivering all of Skyhooks’ hits, plus some rarities. This occasion will mark the first time in almost 40 years, since Bongo last performed (on Eyre Peninsula/ in Mt Gambier) with Skyhooks. This is the only way you will see Skyhooks’ Aussie Rock anthems authentically played live. Don’t miss the ‘Party to End All Parties’!

Dance Makers Collective have discovered a secret underworld of Dad dancing. For their new show they asked their Dads to help them create it. The team interviewed their Dads and revealed secret headphone and tambourine routines, African Dance lovers, 1960’s Rock n Roll partner dancing and more. The dads won't be busting their moves on stage, but audiences will hear the interviews recorded by their sons and daughters, and their musical preferences form the show's soundtrack. The team has taken inspiration from this shared collective of family history and memories of dance, and daggy dad dance moves that are actually a beautiful foray into the layman’s perspective on art.

Following the outstanding success and several standing ovations of the Great Tenors production that toured Australia in 2019, Promac Productions are delighted to announce Kings of the High Cs. This is a new production dedicated to the “Big Three”…Pavarotti, Domingo and Carreras. It’s their lives and their hits in one big show all in front of wonderful imagery on the big screen. But it’s not an opera show…it’s a whole lot more. This four-part contemporary dance work – yellow, black, red and white – is a portrayal of each colour of this earthy substance, its myriad of purposes and the spiritual significance to Aboriginal people. Ochres, first performed in 1994, became a watershed production for Bangarra leading to sell out shows around the country. Now back in 2021, Ochres is on a limited tour of regional South Australia. In a galaxy far, far away, Luke Warmwater and his aunt, Daft Ada, live a loney life on their secluded space station, Junction 51. But when Princess Nebula's ship crash lands into Luke's bedroom, they soon learn of the evil Umpire and his dark desire to conquer the universe. Along with Toby Wonky Nosebleed, Zak Solo and Nigel the Nookie, they follow Pricess Nebula in her rebellion. Aboard the Milennium Penguin, they whizz warp-speed through the galaxy to the Umpire's High Tower on Planet Wimbledonia. But little do they know, the Umpire is about to strike back!
