CATHEDRAL

A man kneels by his dive gear. It’s late afternoon on the Limestone Coast. He has a story to tell. It starts in the water. A powerful, visceral and form-busting new work by award-winning South Australian born playwright Caleb Lewis, Cathedral is a thriller, a family drama and an epic journey of self-discovery. From Mount Gambier to Thailand to the North Sea, from soaring first love to shattering loss to ultimate hope, this powerful story ponders a diver’s life shaped by the ocean, and its power to both upend and heal. Beloved Adelaide actor Nathan O’Keefe (Gaslight, Macbeth, The Comedy of Errors) returns to State Theatre Company South Australia to become the man at the centre of this riveting and suspenseful one-person show directed by rising South Australian star Shannon Rush (Limit). OUTSIDE WITHIN

ADT returns to South Australia’s regional communities once again in 2022 with a brand-new double bill Outside Within, showcasing the extraordinary work of two of the country’s best First Nations choreographers - ADT’s new Artistic Director, Daniel Riley, and 2021 Associate Artist, Adrianne Semmens. Immerse, from Adrianne, is centred around water, and our essential relationship with both freshwater and saltwater. The work draws on Adrianne's identity as a proud descendent of the Barkindji people of western NSW - freshwater country - who was born and raised on Kaurna land in South Australia - by the saltwater. Her choreography explores both the healing and comfort provided by water, but also our vulnerability in relation to it. Daniel Riley, a Wiradjuri man from western NSW, will develop his first choreographic work for the company early in 2022, with its World Premiere in May in Adelaide before heading out on this tour. Riley’s choreographic work aims to prioritise ideas and ideals that resonate with the next generation of storytellers and audiences; moving between artforms, generations and pushing boundaries offered by traditional performance spaces. Later in 2022, Daniel’s mainstage commission will premiere at the Dunstan Playhouse, Adelaide. This double bill will also be the first appearance of Australian Dance Theatre’s 2022 Company Artists, welcoming a diverse range of new dancers to the company.

HOME

It’s a feeling, not a place. A place that feels good to leave. A place that feels even better to return to. Is there any one place more important than our home? At first, a child's home is their world, but as they venture out into the wider world they discover that not all homes are alike, and neither are the people within them. Wondrous, inclusive, bold. Home delves into questions around difference whilst celebrating diversity in a unique Patch Theatre and Restless Dance Theatre collaboration. Bringing together the renowned child-centred design lead approach of Patch and the unique personalities and devising methods of Restless, Home will enlighten and delight.

ISAAC BUTTERFIELD - THE NEW NORMAL

After a sold-out World Tour in 2019, Australia’s favourite bearded son Isaac Butterfield returns with a brand new show written over 2 years of Lockdowns, Protests and Change giving us "The New Normal". This show contains some of the most heinous, horrible, terribly offensive jokes that you’ll ever hear if you do not enjoy offensive comedy, then this is simply not for you. Isaac’s past two shows found him cancelled and attacked by the media (It turns a lot of people can’t take a joke). This year Isaac goes for the Cancel Culture hat-trick. This show is COVID-Safe and is operating under the guidelines of the Australian Federal and State Governments. If this show is unable to continue due to COVID-19, your ticket will be moved to a new rescheduled date or you will receive a refund. It is a requirement to wear a face mask at this event unless State Health guidelines change. Some States & Territories will require you to show proof of vaccination or exemption, don’t be a d!ckhead on the night the staff are just doing their job. This event is 15+ recommended. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

MACRO - ADELAIDE FESTIVAL 2022

South Australia's favourite homegrown “contemporary circus powerhouse”, Gravity & Other Myths (GOM), will ring in the 2022 Adelaide Festival with this free opening night event! Country Arts SA has joined with the Adelaide Festival to bring this fun-filled display of human strength and creativity direct to you, livestreamed from the Adelaide Oval to select cinemas across the state. Those of you who saw GOM's The Pulse at the 2021 Adelaide Festival will know what to expect when the full 30 strong troupe team up with a mass choir. Now add pipes and drums to the equation. And amplification. And giant projection scrims and a colossal ascending triangular lighting rig. We don’t have a castle, but GOM’s inspirational towers and turrets of fit young bodies are equally breathtaking. If you didnt catch GOM's performance last year, then you are in for a treat. This spectacular opening night will be a fun, beautifully produced event for families and friends to marvel at. A heart-in-mouth display of skill and co-ordination. But it will be more than that. From their humble DIY origins, every show mounted by this company is founded by a deep unspoken principle: to show what humans can do when they trust each other, support each other and urge each other to go further. Join this awesome community of performers in a celebration like no other. Its FREE but bookings are required. General Admission.
